Acknowledgment 8 In compiling this book the editors were able to make use of the advice and contributions from many people who have Maastricht University Medical Center+’s best interests at heart. The editors wish to thank the MUMC + Board of Directors. Our special thanks go to Guy Peeters, the chairman, for his continuing support for the book. The head of the Staff Service Communication of Maastricht academic hospital (azM), Liz Tans, and editor Jos van Cann have supported the project from the very beginning offering valuable advice on contents and design. This book is also the outcome of close collaboration with the Regional Historical Centre Limburg (RHCL). Much of the research in archives and the selection of most of the illustrations was the result of advice, help and very active contributions from Frans Roebroeks, Carl Andreas, Jo Boetsen and other members of the RHCL staff. The editors thank Lita Wiggers, the RHCL director for this cooperation. Eric Wetzels, director of Centre Céramique, and Emile Ramakers, an omniscient historian, were very intensively involved in the research in the archives and books of the town library. Librarian Guy Jaegers provided advice and support for research and searches in Maastricht University Library. The editors thank Professor Eddy Houwaart for critically reading the manuscript. In designing the book the editors could rely on the expertise and work of the azM Service and Communication Office. Appie Derks, Engelbert Schins and Hans Patelski could always be called upon to take new photos or improve existing illustrations. Rob Cober, head of Graphical Services azM, gave advice and technical suggestions for the publication of the book. In the editors’ opinion, Menno Roosjen has done a wonderful job of designing the book. The editors thank Mereke Gorsira for her excellent translation and editorial work.
